Wen Yifan’s lips were warm and dry. They imprinted onto his skin like a hot-iron brand.

Her breaths were light and regular like swiftly floating feathers. There was a light scent of roses on her that spread around the room, clouding one’s senses.

They were so close, when she blinked, her lashes gently brushed over his cheek. He could barely feel it, and the curiosity intensified, tearing apart his sanity bit by bit.

Sang Yan involuntarily raised his hand, but froze midair. He shut his eyes and it took everything in him to hold himself back. He closed his fist and slowly retracted it.

He needed to retain his morals.

He was already in dangerous waters.

Meanwhile, Wen Yifan slowly backed up and sat straight.

Her face was blank with a calm expression, as though the person who just kissed him wasn’t her. The scene reverted back to how it was a minute ago.

Like nothing happened.

“Hey, Wen Yifan,” Sang Yan glanced up at her and said in a low voice, “You just kissed me.”

“…”

As if the clock struck twelve, Wen Yifan stood up and walked back to her room.

Sang Yan got up, afraid that she would walk into the shelf again. With a voice so soft like he didn’t want to wake her up, he said, “You’re gonna just run away after kissing someone?”

Wen Yifan dragged her feet slowly, but when she passed by his room, she paused.

“But I really can’t be taken advantaged of like this,” Sang Yan leaned on the wall while he watched her every move, “So you owe me this time.”

“…”

She continued on towards the master bedroom.

Once he was certain she wouldn’t walk into anything, Sang Yan stopped following her. His gaze was unreadable as he finished his sentence, “Pay me back when you’re awake.”

Due to her severe lack of sleep, Wen Yifan only woke up to the ringing of her alarm around 10 a.m. the next day. She reached out and fumbled around before shutting off the alarm. It took her too much effort to sit up after laying in bed for a while more.

She habitually glanced at the door before looking away.

Only after a few seconds did she look up again at the door.

And then only did she realise how empty the area around her door was. The chair wasn’t there. She fully woke up that instant and glanced around.

The chair was nicely placed at the dresser.

Like it was placed back nicely where it should be.

“…”

Wen Yifan was left in a daze.

Was she so tired last night that she thought she’d place the chair at the door but didn’t do it?

Or, did she sleepwalk?

At that moment, Wen Yifan contemplated getting a surveillance camera in her room. At least if she had a record of what she’d done when she sleepwalked, she wouldn’t panic over the unknown like she was now. If anything happened, she would be able to think of something to say in advance.

She crawled out of bed, heading to the washroom to wash up while wrecking her brain to recall if she had moved the chair to the door or not.

But the more she thought about it, the more uncertain she was.

Once she was dressed, Wen Yifan left her room.

It wasn’t early anymore. She entered the kitchen with the thought of making a simple sandwich to go, but she bumped into Sang Yan who was cooking noodles.

She paused.

Sang Yan looked up and briefly glanced at her.

“…”

The atmosphere felt weird.

It felt like Sang Yan was the one being awkward instead, contrary to a few days ago. However, he continued to appear nonplussed and didn’t start a conversation.

Perhaps she felt wrong.

Wen Yifan closed the refrigerator and asked in curiosity, “Last night, did I…”

Sang Yan stirred the contents of the pot with a pair of chopsticks.

She quietly continued, “…sleepwalk?”

Sang Yan replied with a plain ‘hm’.

“I didn’t do anything weird, did I?” Before he could reply, Wen Yifan quickly repeated what she’d said, “You just have to do what I told you before, just treat me like thin air if you see me sleepwalk. If I come near just avoid me.”

He switched off the stove and said, “I’ve not even said anything. Why’re you already dissolving our relationship?”

“I’m not dissolving any relationships, I just wanted to remind you,” Wen Yifan explained.

Sang Yan lifted the pot and asked, “Are you having some?”

Wen Yifan was about to say ‘no’ since she was a little tight on time, but when she saw the noodles in the pot, she gave it a thought. It shouldn’t take too long.

“Sure.”

“Get your own bowl,” said Sang Yan.

Wen Yifan brought out two bowls from the cabinet and trailed behind him.

“Were you not asleep while I was out and about last night?” asked the woman. She recalled sleeping around 2 a.m. after all.

Sang Yan didn’t spare her a glance and said, “I got up in the middle of the night for the washroom.”

Wen Yifan took her seat at the dining table, patiently waiting for him to elaborate. But he was only focused on scooping out the noodles, he didn’t say anything, so she continued, “So did… Did I do anything inappropriate last night?”

Placing the bowl of noodles in front of her, Sang Yan peeked at her with a half-smile. “Last night?”

“Yeah,” said Wen Yifan.

Sang Yan paused for a few seconds like he was trying to remember it all before saying, “You didn’t repeat anything.”

Wen Yifan heaved a sigh of relief.

He then added, “Oh, but,”

Wen Yifan shot her gaze back at him.

Sang Yan smiled and said, “You did something worse.”

“?”

When he noticed her expression, he raised a brow. “Could you not autofill anything impure with your brain?”

“…”

Her mind didn’t even travel towards that direction!!!

Wen Yifan calmed herself down. She was about to go crazy, but her appearance suggested otherwise. She pursed her lips and asked, “Therefore?”

“I won’t go over the details,” Sang Yan said lazily, “If I did, I’m afraid your world would crumble in disbelief that you had this side to you.”

“…”

In an irritating tone of voice, he said, “As of me, I am just that generous and forgiving.”

“It’s fine, just say it,” Wen Yifan held herself back and said, “I can handle it.”

Sang Yan stared at her, but his gaze wandered downwards before stopping. His gaze darkened a little and the corner of his lips lightly twitched. He averted his eyes.

His voice was light yet he sounded like he had been bullied. “Forget it, I can’t bear to say it.”

“…”

This attitude of yours.

What. The. Bloody hell. Else. Is there. That. You can’t. Say?!

“Let’s put it this way,” Sang Yan lightly tapped the table and said, “As of late, my mood’s been great. So I won’t be calculative with you about this, for now.”

“…”

“But going forward, I’m going to get you to return them all one by one.”

Wen Yifan didn’t like the feeling of owing someone else and said, “Can’t I just pay it back now?”

Sang Yan leaned back against the backrest.

“It’s not time yet,” he said.

“When should it be, then?” asked the woman.

He didn’t offer a reply.

The current situation reminded her of the first time she had went to OverTime and accidentally slipped out the name ‘Star-Sang’. He’d even misunderstood that she was there to hook up with him.

And the way she was behaving was a little similar to that “hook-up”, but it wasn’t exactly it either.

Since she’d repeatedly done these bad things, she should offer him some compensation.

…Something along those lines?

Wen Yifan couldn’t figure out how she should go about doing that and could only come up with the most logical solution. She asked, “Do you… Want money?”

Sang Yan’s expression froze.

“How about… I write you an IOU?” Wen Yifan was a little short on cash lately, but if she were to be calculative then she wouldn’t appear to be humble. “You can just remind me again in the near future.”

Sang Yan stared at her with an expressionless face and didn’t carry on with the topic at hand. Only after a while did he say, “Eat.”

The situation seemed to have reversed after that.

Wen Yifan already heard the man talk about her kissing him once while she sleepwalked. It has also been a few days since that incident. She didn’t dare believe it, but she’d already come to accept it.

Even if Sang Yan said she went even further this time.

But he had always spoke that way, and Wen Yifan didn’t really believe that she could do anything that bad.

As for the previous kissing episode, Wen Yifan could sort of accept his far-fetched explanation. But now Sang Yan knew of her sleepwalking habits. If she’d really cross the line, there was no way he’d remain mum about it.

Wen Yifan didn’t put this episode to heart.

Instead, it was Sang Yan who got all weird, like he was imitating her reaction to the previous incident. The only difference was that his reaction was delayed. It was only after a while as he ruminated over the incident that he found it difficult to accept the fact that she actually kissed him.

Judging from the chair at her door, Wen Yifan roughly concluded that she didn’t frequently sleepwalk. It was just once in a while. Sang Yan didn’t say anything about any more episodes, so she was more relieved.

On an afternoon somewhere at the end of April, Wen Yifan noticed two new faces in the office after returning from an interview with Fu Zhuang.

There wasn’t any follow-up previously after Fu Zhuang had told her about the company recruiting new staff. She thought he’d heard some wrong information and the matter slipped her mind.

The new recruits were a boy and a girl who looked like they were in university. There wasn’t any mentor available at the moment to bring them around, so they were seat at their desks going through materials instead.

Fu Zhuang knew one of them and brightened up when he saw them.

“Mu Chengyun,” he called out.

At the sound of his name, Wen Yifan noticed the boy’s face. He was the one who had given her the signature before.

She turned to Fu Zhuang and asked, “You know him?”

“I do! He’s a coursemate of mine, Mu Chengyun,” Fu Zhuang excitedly introduced. “He’s the one I told you before, the one who asked if we were still recruiting. He’s really famous in our department, he even starred in a movie too! Isn’t that awesome!”

Mu Chengyun stood up while the other two were speaking. He went over and greeted, “Nice to you meet you, Senior. I’m the new intern, Mu Chengyun.”

“You can just call her Sister Yifan or Sister Wen. If you call her ‘Senior’ we wouldn’t know which senior you’re referring to. All of us are your seniors,” Fu Zhuang said proudly with a light tap on his own chest. “I’m your senior too.”

Mu Chengyun immediately looked at Wen Yifan, waiting for her approval.

“You can call me whatever you want to,” said Wen Yifan. “We’ve met before, haven’t we?”

“Yes,” Mu Chengyun smiled and nodded. “I didn’t think Sister Yifan was a fan of mine.”

“…”

Fu Zhuang was surprised. “Sis, you’ve seen his film?”

Wen Yifan was silent for three seconds before saying, “Hm,” with no further elaboration.

The other intern spoke up. She was bubbly with a little snaggletooth appearing when she smiled.

“What film was it? Let’s see if I’ve seen it before.”

Before anyone replied, she continued, “Right, my name is Fang Li. Senior, can I call you Sister Yifan too?”

Wen Yifan agreed and went back to her seat without continuing the conversation with them. She saw Fang Li bringing out her phone to exchange WeChat contacts while she switched on her computer.

After a while, Wen Yifan felt a shadow over her as she opened a document. When she looked up, Mu Chengyun was next to her.

“Sister Yifan, could I add your WeChat contact, please?” he asked politely.

Fang Li came over too and waited.

Wen Yifan paused before picking up her phone and nodding. “Sure,” she said.

After accepting their friend request, Wen Yifan scrolled through her messages. She stumbled upon the landlord’s recent message regarding rent.

Wen Yifan just realised that it was time to pay the rent. It slipped her mind while she was busy with work.

She quickly apologised and transferred the money to him. Wen Yifan looked up her chat with Sang Yan after the money got through.

WYF :【It’s time to pay the rent for this month.】

WYF :【You can just transfer the money to me via AliPay.】

After sending out the messages, she left her phone aside and began typing out the article.

Barely half a minute later, her phone screen lit up.

Wen Yifan picked up the device and unlocked it without peeling her eyes away from her computer.

It was a notification of Sang Yan’s money transfer.

She swiped to confirm the amount.

— ꜱᴀɴɢ ʏᴀɴ ʜᴀꜱ ᴛʀᴀɴꜱꜰᴇʀʀᴇᴅ 30,000 ʏᴜᴀɴ.

She exited the AliPay app and went to WeChat. She was about to message him that she received the payment, but something wasn’t right.

With a slight head-tilt, she rechecked the amount he transferred.

One, two, three, four…

“…?”

There were four zeros.

Isn’t that in the ten-thousands?

His monthly rent was only three thousand.

If he was going to stay on for another two months, it wouldn’t go up to thirty thousand…

Wen Yifan took a screenshot and sent it to him.

WYF :【Why’d you transfer so much?】

SY :【What.】

After a minute,

SY :【Oh.】

SY :【I typed in an extra zero.】

“…”

I guess it’s different when you’re rich, Wen Yifan thought.

WYF :【I’ll transfer it back.】

SY :【It’s fine.】

SY :【Just take the next rent out from that.】

Wen Yifan thought he was only staying for another month. She was a little dumbfounded over that message. After thinking about it, she asked,

WYF :【How many more months are you staying, roughly?】

SY :【?】

She couldn’t figure out his mood from the text.

WYF :【Just to confirm.】

WYF :【So I’ll know when to start looking for a new housemate.】

This time, Sang Yan didn’t reply immediately. It took him a long while before he sent a voice message.

His voice was lazy as he said, “Until you pay back what you owe me.”

“…”

WYF :【Owe?】

Another voice message came in.

“What, do you need me to remind you about it too?”

Wen Yifan didn’t have time to process his words before the man started typing again.

A chain of messages.

Each phrase hitting her on the brain like a hammer, one by one.

【In the】

【Middle of the night,】

【Your desire】

【Overpowered your reason,】

【And you attempted,】

【To】

【Take me.】
