Chapter 72

Your Words Don’t Match Your Heart

Wen Yifan stared at it for three seconds before looking back up at Sang Yan. Noticing her gaze, he calmly looked back, keeping his casual, nonchalant appearance, his brow slightly hitched up.

He looked extremely put together, as though he hadn’t done anything odd.

It seemed like she was the one with the issue here.

Looking at the two messages, it did sound a bit like she was bragging.

Wen Yifan pondered over it, and typed ‘That was sent by my boyfriend’, but before she sent it out, she felt like that was boasting too.

She deleted the whole thing and gave up.

If she was writing her report manuscripts, she should write it as it was without any exaggeration. What more, Sang Yan had already seen it. Wen Yifan was curious and brought it up again. “Did you see it all?”

Sang Yan poured her a glass of water. “What?”

Wen Yifan added, “The first post.”

“Oh,” Sang Yan wasn’t being cooperative and very slowly said, “You went for karaoke with your friend, and got hugged.”

“…” Wen Yifan stared at his pretentious expression and continued her ‘interview’ with him. “So, from the guy’s point of view, this odd behaviour of my friend, is it normal?”

Sang Yan stared at her and immediately accepted her interview. “Normally, no.”

Wen Yifan paused for a bit. “Why is that so?”

“I’m not too sure either. However, if this odd friend of yours is call ‘Sang Yan’,” he drummed his fingers lightly on the table, lifted his chin up a little and said, “I’m more inclined to say that, you were the one with ill-intentions.”

After a few seconds of silence, Wen Yifan called out of to him, “Sang Yan.”

“Hm?”

“I feel like,” – thinking back to their high school days, when he said that his name was given by his family after much thought and consideration, Wen Yifan said seriously, “your name does suit your personality well.”

Sang Yan raised his gaze, “How so?”

Wen Yifan stared directly at him and said,

“Your words don’t match your heart.”*

“…”

After their meal, they left the shop.

Wen Yifan didn’t know what the rest of the plan was. She only knew that the main reason Sang Yan came to Yihe was to visit Sang Zhi. She didn’t want to disrupt his plan too much either. “Are you going to look for Zhi Zhi now?”

Sang Yan galnced at his phone. “Do you wanna see her?”

“Of course I-”

Before she finished, Wen Yifan suddenly noticed the hickey next to his throat. She instantly swallowed her words and corrected herself, “Let’s just wait till she goes back to Nanwu.”

Wen Yifan was fine as long as they didn’t bump into anyone they knew along the way, but if they were seen by someone they knew, or worse still, if Sang Yan’s little sister saw them like this, she’d feel extremely awkward.

“I need to get back to work the day after tomorrow. I booked a two way ticket when I came,” Wen Yifan told him, “My flight back is tomorrow at noon. I’ll just get the airport shuttle back.”

Sang Yan hummed in response. “I’ll go with you.”

Wen Yifan was surprised. “You just managed to get her, are you not staying a few more days?”

“I did intend to,” Sang Yan dragged, “but I don’t want to anymore, not after seeing that bastard.”

“…”

“Plus, that little brat is still studying and she’s got a lot on her plate, and she’s dating that bastard,” Sang Yan said, “where’s she going to find the time to entertain her brother?”

Wen Yifan couldn’t help but defend Sang Zhi a little. “Your dormmate doesn’t seem that much older than Zhi Zhi.”

Sang Yan said, “This and that are two separate things.”

Wen Yifan didn’t know exactly what had happened between them, and it wasn’t her place to comment. She glanced at the corner of his eye again. “So did you fight Duan Jiaxu?”

“No,” Sang Yan said directly. “I plummeted him.”

“…”

“Seeing how pitiful he looked,” Sang Yan pointed at his face and said, “I let him get a hit in.”

“…”

“If that bastard had told me the truth earlier, it would’ve been fine. Does it look like I could prevent it? I knew he was going after someone before too-” When he said that, Sang Yan recalled something all of a sudden and let out a humourless laugh. “Oh, Qian Fei was the one who helped him chase after her.”

Wen Yifan remained silent.

“No wonder he denied it,” Sang Yan said, “Asshole.”

She got the rough picture from Sang Yan’s words.

Sang Zhi probably already knew Duan Jiaxu when she was younger.

And because the university Sang Zhi attended was far away, and since Duan Jiaxu so happen to be in Yihe, Sang Yan asked his friend to take care of Sang Zhi on his behalf. He also recently figured that Sang Zhi seems to be seeing a student taking his Master’s, so Sang Yan had asked Duan Jiaxu to pay extra attention to Sang Zhi so that the girl won’t get scammed.

Duan Jiaxu had gladly agreed to it.

Sang Yan also knew that Duan Jiaxu had been pursuing someone in that same period of time, and that it was their other friend Qian Fei who had helped him with it. He’d only found it strange, but didn’t think too much about it.

And in the end,

After travelling miles and miles from Nanwu to Yihe, he’d found out that the person Duan Jiaxu had been pursuing was Sang Zhi.

And the Master’s student Sang Zhi was talking about was Duan Jiaxu.

“…”

Wen Yifan did feel bad for Sang Yan, and didn’t say more. She looked around and noticed the students walking around the area and asked, “So, where do we go now?”

Sang Yan glanced at her. “Wen Shuang Jiang, this is where you went to university. Shouldn’t you pick?”

“Well, shall we go around campus? I’ve not been back in a while too.” She calculated and said, “I’ve graduated for 4 years now, then moved to a different district when I worked with the Daily Yihe Mail. I’ve not been back since.”

“Sure,” Sang Yan laughed.

After entering the campus, Wen Yifan’s mood was good and she said, “Yihe Uni doesn’t have as big a campus as Nanwu Uni. We only have one campus, but it is still big.” She then turned and pointed, “I used to live in the dormitories over there.”

Sang Yan looked over and nodded, “Hm.”

Night gradually fell as the Sun started setting. A few stars decorated the summer night sky. There was a small man-made pool in the distance. The wind was still warm.

There were still many students around campus at the time. Most of them had just finished classes and were on the way for dinner, or for other curricular activities.

They continued walking hand in hand.

Wen Yifan said as she pointed out, “That was the canteen I used to frequent, and next to it was our library. …That’s the main hall – it was newly built during my year. I had my graduation ceremony there.”

Sang Yan listened quietly and looked over wherever she pointed, and he intermittently responded.

After a round, Wen Yifan was a little thirsty and brought him to one of the milk tea shops on campus.

There wasn’t much of a queue there. There were about 2 or 3 people, but because there was only one person manning the shop, and they seemed to be new, the wait was just a bit longer than usual.

It took a long while before it was their turn.

Because she had to use her phone to pay, Wen Yifan let go of Sang Yan’s hand and looked over the menu. The staff was busy making someone else’s drink and didn’t come to take her order for a while too.

Wen Yifan couldn’t decide either. She was about to ask for Sang Yan’s opinion, but heard movements on the side.

She glanced over.

She wasn’t aware when they came, but a pretty girl had approached Sang Yan. She wasn’t tall, and she had a blush on her cheeks as she bashfully handed her phone to him saying, “Senior, could we exchange numbers please?”

“…”

Sang Yan stood his ground, his expressions flat. Hearing the title she had called him, he seemed to have recalled something and tilted his head, glancing at Wen Yifan. He raised a brow with a playful smirk and said, “I’m sorry.”

In the next moment, Wen Yifan’s hand was taken into his again.

“I’m dating this junior,” Sang Yan curved his lips and soothed his finger over hers. “So I can’t do that.”

That reminded Wen Yifan of the first day they met, when Sang Yan had played along when she’d assumed he was a senior.

After buying the milk tea, Wen Yifan drank it and brought the incident up, “You were clearly my age, so why did you call me ‘junior’ back then?”

Sang Yan said smugly, “You started it, didn’t you?”

“Well, the bell had rung and we were already late,” Wen Yifan said, “but you were still calmly filling up your bottle. You didn’t look like a new student at all.”

“We were already late,” Sang Yan casually said, “what’s the point of rushing?”

“…”

Wen Yifan had never met someone like this before.

The kind of person who would do things his way, no matter what. As if the rules of whole world were on his side.

But then again, listening to his reasoning, it did make sense.

Their trip around campus took around 2 hours.

Wen Yifan began to feel tired after the walk. She was already at a lower baseline due to the events from last night. When they left campus grounds, she didn’t really feel like walking anymore. Sang Yan was still holding onto her hand as they walked, but their speed had decreased too.

Noticing her condition, Sang Yan turned back. “What’s wrong?”

Wen Yifan looked at him. “I’m tired.”

They held each other’s gazes for a few seconds before Sang Yan understood what she really meant. He found it funny and his lips curved up before he squat down. “Come on,”

Wen Yifan didn’t get on his back immediately. “Aren’t you tired?”

“We barely walked much,” he said.

Hearing that, Wen Yifan got on. “Okay.”

After a while, she heard Sang Yan say, “Little Miss Delicate.”

“…”

Wen Yifan wanted to clarify that she wouldn’t usually be this tired after just 2 hours of walking under normal circumstances, but she felt like she shouldn’t, so she grabbed his collar, and bit his ear.

She only did it lightly and all Sang Yan felt was an itch. He raised a brow and said, “You can bite all your want when we get back.”

Wen Yifan laughed, “I want to sleep when we get back.”

“Well, carry on, then.” Sang Yan said, “just be careful of people watching.”

Wen Yifan didn’t listen and said, “Carry me for another 5 minutes, then we’ll hail a cab home.”

“Why not now?”

Wen Yifan said honestly, “because I want you to carry me for a while more.”

“…”

“Sang Yan, I’ve brought you around the whole campus,” Wen Yifan rested her chin on his shoulder and softly said, “Isn’t Yihe Uni pretty good?”

“It’s not bad.”

“When we’re free after returning to Nanwu,” Wen Yifan also wanted to hear him talk about his time in university. “Let’s go walk around Nanwu Uni too, okay?”

Sang Yan’s eye twitched a little and laughed, “Sure.”

Seeing how Sang Yan slept later last night and woke up earlier this morning, Wen Yifan struggled before jumping off him even before the 5-minute mark. Coincidentally, an empty taxi came by and she hailed it down.

They both returned to the hotel.

The room had been cleaned up. The bedsheets were new and nicely folded.

Wen Yifan went straight to the bed and laid down, playing with her phone. She opened up weibo and instantly saw the new reply to the thread. It was simple.

【?】

The original thread looked very familiar to Wen Yifan.

It was the one she had written.

【Anon, how could you chase after someone you had offended before?】

【I managed to sleep with him.】

The reply was one-year apart.

Wen Yifan made mental preparations before tapping into the thread. Her vision was bombarded with millions of question marks by various people.

And that’s why one of the most normal reply stood out the most to her.

【Congrats.】

“What’re you looking at? Go take a shower.” Sang Yan adjusted the air conditioning and said, “Ju.Nior.”

Wen Yifan put her phone away. “Let me lay down for a while more.”

Sang Yan raised a brow. “What, you want me to help you take a shower again?”

Wen Yifan paused and gave it some serious thought and decided that this suggestion wasn’t all bad.

“Can you?”

Sang Yan malfunctioned for a bit at her response. He looked at her with a humourless laugh. “How did you become even more thick-faced.”

She could use the excuse of being too tired yesterday.

But now that she was wide awake… Even to the point that she could say something like this…

Wen Yifan rolled over and sprawled over his legs lazily, “You’ve already seen everything…”

Sang Yan didn’t say anything.

But Wen Yifan had only been joking.

Very quickly, she sat up and said, “I’m gonna take a shower.”

Sang Yan instantly yanked her back and pinned her down with one hand. “Running away?”

Wen Yifan was a little panicked. “Didn’t you ask me to take a shower?”

“Didn’t you ask me to help you take a shower?”

“Well, then, junior,” Sang Yan stood up and carried her up. His voice pushed its way into her ears, enticing her, “Why don’t you sleep with this senior tonight?”

The next day, both of them only woke up around noon.

After returning the keys to the room, Wen Yifan brought him to a nearby shop for lunch before heading to the airport. After boarding and returning to Nanwu, it was already almost 5 p.m.

It was time for dinner.

After they got to the taxi area outside the airport, Sang Yan didn’t go home immediately. He asked the taxi driver to bring them to a barbeque stall near home.

It was a newly opened shop and Wen Yifan had heard Su Tian recommend it many times, but she hadn’t been. She had agreed to go with Sang Yan after their Yihe trip.

After they got down, they entered the shop and was ushered to a seat by the staff. Before Wen Yifan managed to sit, she heard a familiar voice among the noise.

“Yifan?”

Wen Yifan turned around and came face to face with Su Tian.

The shop was really noisy.

Su Tian was seated at a two-seater table with a guy. They looked like they had just arrived too, by the looks of their empty table. Su Tian looked at her with a wide smile on her face, happy to have seen her there.

“You’re here to eat too?”

Wen Yifan smiled and nodded, “Yeah.”

Su Tian looked like she was about to say something, but her eyes caught sight of Sang Yan who was standing behind Wen Yifan.

And she took back her words.

Wen Yifan blinked and wanted to introduce them.

Seeing Sang Yan’s extremely handsome features, Su Tian looked back at Wen Yifan. She noticed their intertwined fingers and understood the situation. Glancing back at Sang Yan, she blurted without thinking:

“Yifan, is this your King of the Ducks?”

Wen Yifan: “…”

Sang Yan: “?”
