Chapter 51

Your Boyfriend Wants to Come Pick You Up

After her awkwardness passed, Wen Yifan adjusted her emotions very quickly. She didn’t see why that phrase couldn’t be repeated. She briefly nodded and calmly said, “Yes, I’ve heard of it.”

Sang Yan tilted his head to glance at her.

“I said it after all.”

“…”

The hotel was located at a more secluded area and there weren’t many shops around. There was, however, a restaurant right opposite with quite a number of customers at the time who were probably residents nearby.

Four of them ordered a simple breakfast and left as soon as they were done.

Their car was parked near the hotel, around 50 metres away from them.

Qian Weihua was not young anymore, and after running around with sleepless nights the past few days, his body was not catching up well enough. He’d been experiencing body aches all over with the lack of rest.

Mu Chengyun hadn’t gotten his driver’s license, that’s why they’d agreed the previous night that Wen Yifan would drive them back.

It was a three-hour journey back. It wasn’t too near, neither was it too far. Along the road back, the other two were resting while Sang Yan, who was at the passenger’s seat, would speak a word or two to her at times.

Once they arrived at Nanwu, Wen Yifan dropped Sang Yan off at the entrance to their district before driving back to the TV Station.

She drove to the parking lot and got off. Three of them unloaded all the equipment and walked towards the building. Qian Weihua was walking alone in front while speaking to someone on the phone.

Mu Chengyun eventually called out to her, after holding back the whole trip.

“Sister Yifan.”

Wen Yifan turned her head. “What’s up?”

Mu Chengyun was silent for a few seconds. His tone of voice was firm yet in slight disbelief as he asked, “Are you together with Senior Sang?”

Wen Yifan didn’t think it was good of her to reveal their relationship because Sang Yan was hitching a ride. She was afraid the others would think she couldn’t separate her private life from her work and would think that she was going for a date instead of work.

However, thinking about it carefully, Wen Yifan hadn’t delayed anything on the trip apart from bringing Sang Yan along the trip back.

Not feeling the need to hide it, Wen Yifan nodded, “Yeah.”

Mu Chengyun fell quiet again for a bit before he quickly smiled and said, “Well, if that’s the case.”

With what Su Tian had told her before and the way Mu Chengyun acted, Wen Yifan could tell what he was thinking. However, they both didn’t interact a lot on a regular basis and he hadn’t said anything directly to her, so she didn’t dwell on it.

Wen Yifan sighed a breath of relief.

Confirming things like this was better for both sides.

Back in the office, Wen Yifan greeted the others as usual and began to read through the materials and wrote out manuscripts in a craze. She just wanted to complete the work as soon as possible, ending the overtime that lasted for half a month and go home to rest.

Before leaving work, Wen Yifan received Sang Yan’s message on WeChat, asking when she would be getting off. She glanced at the time and replied with a rough time : 【Around seven.】

WYF : 【What’s wrong?】

In the next moment, Sang Yan sent a voice message in a slow voice : “Just wanting to let you know something.”

After three seconds, another message came : “Your boyfriend wants to come pick you up.”

Finishing up what was remaining, Wen Yifan packed up and left the company. She spotted Sang Yan’s car close by almost immediately and quickened her pace over, getting into the passenger’s seat.

Sang Yan had changed out of his clothes and looked like he got plenty of rest after reaching home.

Unsure of why he had come, Wen Yifan asked, “Are we going anywhere now?”

“We’re going home,” said Sang Yan with a tilt of his head and a short glance.

Wen Yifan looked back. “What’s wrong?”

It was quiet again.

Sang Yan didn’t speak and suddenly unbuckled his seatbelt, reaching over to put on hers. His face suddenly came within inches of hers. After fastening her seatbelt, he didn’t move back immediately and stayed there as he finished speaking.

“Don’t you still owe me a present?”

At that distance, they could feel each other’s breaths against their faces.

Wen Yifan unconsciously held her breath and said, “Didn’t you say you’ve already received it?”

Sang Yan raised his eyebrows.

Wen Yifan blinked. “I’ll just leave this one for next year.”

“I was just trying to save your face and framed my words in a nice way for you.” Sang Yan’s brows twitched and spoke slowly, “But, you should know better who actually received the present, right?”

“I think,” Wen Yifan contemplated it, feeling a sudden urge to laugh, “both of us did – half-half.”

“…”

“Well, after the kiss,” Wen Yifan felt a little embarrassed after saying it out, but she still described what happened last night seriously, “you seemed to be quite happy too.”

Sang Yan stared at her, but didn’t continue fighting back. His gaze trailed downwards and fixed itself on her lips. After that, he sat back down and started the engine. “Sure.”

“Huh?”

Sang Yan said as-a-matter-of-factly, “I’ll admit to that.”

By the time they reached home, it was a little too late to start making dinner.

When they passed by a restaurant on the way home, Sang Yan parked the car and went in to order takeaway for the both of them before driving home.

After not coming back for half a month, the house didn’t look much different. Things were still where they were neatly. All Wen Yifan wanted to do was to eat and sleep. Just as she sat down to eat, Sang Yan lifted her back up.

Wen Yifan looked at him in panic.

“Aren’t you forgetting something?” asked Sang Yan.

Wen Yifan immediately remembered and got up to her room. “Wait a moment.”

Entering her room, Wen Yifan opened her closet and brought down the bag she placed at the top. She glanced at it but began to worry if he would like it.

Wen Yifan returned to the dining area and passed it to him.

Sang Yan received it and brushed his gaze over the bag casually. “Clothes?”

Wen Yifan nodded. “Outerwear.”

Sang Yan looked in and took it out.

It was a plain camel-coloured long coat.

Sang Yan stared at it for a while, maybe because he’d never worn such a colour before. He asked, “Why’d you pick this colour?”

Wen Yifan observed his expression. “I think it suits you quite well.”

Very quickly, she added, “Plus, I’ve never seen you in this colour.”

Although he seemed to prefer wearing black much more, but Wen Yifan still wanted to see him wear other colours sometimes.

Wen Yifan didn’t know if this was a good present and was worried. “If you don’t like it, how about I change a different present?”

Sang Yan laughed, “When did I say that I didn’t like it?”

“…”

“I’ve received quite a number of gifts. On the satisfactory scale…” Sang Yan gave a prolonged pause on purpose, before giving his commentary seriously, “this would rank number two.”

Wen Yifan said, “Ah, what’s number one?”

“Number one?” Sang Yan side-stepped, “The one I received yesterday.”

Yesterday?

Yesterday was Sang Yan’s birthday and he received many things.

She gave him a cake.

They confirmed their relationship too.

And, according to Sang Yan, that kiss was probably one of it too.

Wen Yifan wasn’t sure if it was something she was involved with, but she wanted to know the answer and asked again, “What was it?”

Sang Yan let her guess. “You think?”

Wen Yifan wasn’t sure what other presents did he received and assumed the others were also precious. She didn’t want to claim the first place so easily. She reached out and lifted the plastic bag in front of her. “I’ll think about it then.”

But she barely thought about it for half a minute before something pressed down on Wen Yifan’s head. She looked up to see Sang Yan’s hand on her head ruffling her hair a little.

It wasn’t as light as how a normal person would.

Very quickly, Sang Yan stopped his action and his lips curved up.

“Thanks.”

His hand was still on her head.

Wen Yifan didn’t move but held his gaze, a little confused. “Thanks for?”

Sang Yan smiled, “The present.”

Hearing that, Wen Yifan’s gaze travelled down to the coat in his hand.

“And, stop thinking about it,” Sang Yan retracted his hand said lightly, “You’re number one.”

After dinner, Wen Yifan returned to her room.

She climbed back into bed after finishing her night routine. Just as she was recalling what Sang Yan had last said, a knock came on her door. She was stunned and sat back up.

Wondering what Sang Yan was up to, she stood up and opened her door.

Sang Yan was standing there looking like he’d just finished showering too. He was in his home wear and his hair was still damp, softly resting along his ear. When he saw her at the door, he tilted his head, trying to glance at the back of her ear.

In the next moment, he raised a brow, grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his arms.

Following his action, Wen Yifan was pulled forward and bumped her forehead against his chest.

She had her guard down and blankly asked, “What’s wrong?”

Sang Yan placed his other hand on the back of her neck without any extra movement. He then tilted his head slightly, looking at the back of her ear and paused, as if observing something.

Wen Yifan finally understood.

At that distance and the fact that he’d just finished showering, the scent of sandalwood on his body was exceptionally strong. Wen Yifan felt his gaze had taken shape and wherever he touched her was a little hot.

Wen Yifan wanted to take a step back, but she was held in place by him and couldn’t move.

Sang Yan asked lightly, “Have you applied medicine?”

“No,” Wen Yifan bit her lips and explained, “The scab already formed, there’s no need.”

“You got water over it.” Sang Yan let her go and sounded a little unhappy. “You didn’t even have a look at it.”

“…”

Sang Yan walked out and said, “Come out and apply the medication.”

Wen Yifan involuntarily touched the back of her ear and only then did she realise there was a slight prickly feel and some swelling over the area. She hadn’t paid too much attention to the small wound, but she followed after Sang Yan.

Taking out the medication from the drawers under the television, Sang Yan gestured towards the sofa with his chin. “Sit there.”

Wen Yifan didn’t think it was a big issue. “This wound would heal on its own.”

Sang Yan didn’t care about her words and sat next to her with an expressionless face. He brought up a cotton ball to wipe away the water around the area.

There was a little tension in the air.

The situation reminded Wen Yifan of the time when she’d applied medicine on him.

She felt like she had to do something to ease the tension.

When she saw that Sang Yan was about to touch her, Wen Yifan thought about it before she suddenly flinched back.

They stared at each other.

Wen Yifan blurted, “It hurts.”

“…”

The tension in the atmosphere shattered at that moment.

Sang Yan smiled as he said, “Are you finding fault with me?”

Wen Yifan wanted to say that she learned it from him, but she decided to save him some face. She leaned back forward and casually said, “I didn’t bother about it after the scab formed. I thought it was almost well.”

Hinting at him to stop frowning.

Sang Yan didn’t reply to that. “Do you often get hurt on the job?”

“Ah?” Wen Yifan gave it a thought. “Not really.”

“…”

“Sometimes? I didn’t realise when this happened.” Wen Yifan laughed, “Plus, I hadn’t noticed immediately. I only knew after my colleague told me. It didn’t really hurt.”

Sang Yan looked like the Demon King while he disinfected her wound with iodine, but his actions were gentle.

“Does it really not hurt?”

For some reason, when he asked that, Wen Yifan stopped herself from agreeing. She stared his the side of his face and subconsciously answered, “It hurts a little.”

Sang Yan’s movements seemingly became even gentler. “Now?”

“That’s better.”

After cleaning up the wound, Sang Yan tossed the swabs into the bin. “Don’t get it wet when you shower tomorrow.”

“Okay.”

Sang Yan started packing and said, “Go to sleep.”

Wen Yifan hummed in response and stood up to head to her room, but she quickly turned back to look at the man who was still at the sofa. She asked, “Will you help me apply the medicine tomorrow?”

“…”

Sang Yan’s movements stopped, like he never thought she’d voluntarily say that. He stared at her for a long while before looking away.

“Come over yourself after you shower.”
